Tejas Beach Volleyball
Junior Beach Volleyball has quickly gained popularity in Texas, especially in the North Texas Region. Beach Volleyball is an amazing tool for developing all aspects of your game. We have some new features for our beach program this year that will further enhance the development of any athlete! All players from all indoor clubs are welcome to participate in our program.
New Beach Facility
Tejas Volleyball will have a new 6-Court facility for our 2010 Beach season. This new training facility will allow us to provide better training to each athlete/team. The courts are located in Keller, Texas, near the intersection of North Tarrant Parkway and Willis Lane, less than 5 miles from our indoor training facility! The training facility will be equipped with new nets, new court lines, new sand, all in a park-like setting!
New Beach Coaches
Kevin Anderson and Trent Sorensen will be the head coaches for the 2010 beach season. Kevin and Trent were both All-American college indoor players and have also enjoyed great success in the outdoor game. They both bring an incredible amount of coaching and playing experience, as well as a commitment to providing a positive and challenging training experience. Kevin and Trent will be at each practice throughout the season. In addition to Kevin and Trent, we will have other coaches on the beach staff to assist in the training. A Tejas staff member will be on site-at each beach tournament during the 2010 season!
Kevin and Trent have been working with Casey Patterson and Kevin Wong to develop a beach training system exclusive to Tejas Volleyball. Casey and Kevin are two of the most elite professional beach volleyball players currently playing on the AVP Tour. Between the 2 of them, they have earned more than $750,000 on the AVP Tour, enjoying wins at the following tour stops: Manhattan Beach Open, Hermosa Beach Open, Huntington Beach Open, and the Coney Island Open. Casey has recently been named to the Paul Mitchell "Hot Shot" team. Kevin competed in the 2000 Olympics for beach volleyball and was named to People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" during the Olympic year!

Casey and Kevin will both be at our tryout and clinic on Saturday May 8th! This is an opportunity that very few athletes get the opportunity to enjoy. We will have these elite beach volleyball players right here at our own beach training facility! The cost to attend this tryout clinic is only $20!
New Sponsor
Tejas Volleyball has reached a sponsorship agreement with Rox Volleyball to be the official apparel sponsor for our beach program. Each athlete in the program will be equipped with a uniform top, uniform bottoms, bag, and racer-back tank top from Rox Volleyball this season. Rox is known in the volleyball community for fusing performance and function with a trendy and fashionable style. Each athlete will also receive a Wilson AVP Volleyball as part of our program. All of these items are included in the cost of participating in the beach program!
2010 Beach Season
The 2010 Beach Season will get started on Saturday, May 8th from 10am-1pm with our tryout clinic. At this tryout clinic we will select the players that we will take into the Tejas Beach Program. We are limiting the number of athletes in our program this year to ensure the best training for each participant in the program. This will be a serious beach volleyball training program. The cost for the tryout clinic will be only $20.
Once we have selected the players for the 2010 beach season, we will start practices on Saturdays from 10am-12pm (while school is still in). Once school is out, we will train our athletes from 2pm-4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If there are alot of requests, we may offer an evening session for those athletes that are unable to attend during the day. It is our goal to provide the best training for all of our athletes in this program. We strongly feel that training from 2pm-4pm will condition our athletes to perform their best at tournaments.
Each team can decide what tournaments they want to play in. They can play every weekend or they could decide to play twice a month - it is completely up to each team. If you already have a big summer vacation planned, beach is still an option for you since you are able to choose what tournaments you play in! Most of our top teams will attend every practice and will attend at least two tournament a month.
The cost for the summer Beach Program is $600. This covers EVERYTHING except for tournament entry fees, since all tournaments are decided by each team. The tournament entry fees range from $15-$20 per player and tournaments are offered every single weekend during the summer months.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you have to be from Tejas Volleyball to participate in our beach program?
- You do not have to be from our indoor club, Tejas Volleyball, to participate... we work with any player from any indoor club - 12-18yrs. This is beach volleyball, not indoor. Each player does, however, need to be registered with USA Volleyball. If you played club indoor volleyball, you do not need to register for anything else. If you did not play club indoor volleyball, you will need to register for a Summer/Beach Membership ($15) at ntrvolleyball.org. We will select players on Saturday, May 8th at our tryout clinic.
- What if my daughter does not have a partner?
- It is ideal to have a partner that you can play with for the entire beach season. If you do not have a partner, we will make every effort to find a partner for your daughter at the May 8th clinic/tryout. It is important when selecting a partner to find someone that you will be compatible with for the season!
- When do they practice?
- While the athletes are in school, we will practice on Saturdays from 10am-12pm. Once school is out, we will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm-4pm. It is important that we train during the times that tournaments are being held (when it is HOT outside). The practice sessions will cover technique, conditioning, and theory/strategy geared to the beach doubles game. All practices will conclude with a plyometrics program that is designed to increase speed, agility, and the vertical jump! The first event will be on Saturday, May 8th, with practices starting the following week.
- What is the cost?
- Cost is $600 for the entire summer. This fee includes a Wilson AVP Beach Volleyball, a backpack, a uniform top, and a Tejas Beach shirt provided by Rox Volleyball. It does not include tournament entry fees, as all tournaments are optional for each player. Teams will have the option of playing in all tournaments or skipping some if both players agree. Each tournament is an individual event with a team entry fee of around $30-40 ($15-$20 each) and players can pick and choose which events that want to compete in. In beach volleyball you could play the whole season with the same partner or have a different partner for each tournament. You don't need a partner to tryout, but if you have one you'd like to play with then that's fine too.
- What can we expect from a practice session?
- Every session includes doubles instruction, conditioning, and ball control/skills drills. We play at the end to apply what we have learned. All practices will conclude with a plyometrics program that is designed to increase speed, agility, and the vertical jump! You will be exhausted after each practice. We expect all players to be in the best shape of their lives after completing this program!
- Where are the practices held?
- All practices will be held at the NEW Tejas Volleyball Beach Volleyball Facility in Keller, Texas. The facility is located on the property of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and features 6 premier sand volleyball courts. These courts were originally built for exclusive use by the North Texas Region for sand tournaments. Tejas Volleyball has been given exclusive use of the courts for our training program!
- Why beach volleyball?
- If your junior loves volleyball, but the thought of spending long days inside a gym when it is nice outside is not that appealing, then playing beach (sand - we don't really have a beach :) is a great alternative to keep up skills and increase speed, quickness and endurance. Beach Volleyball is now a NCAA sport and colleges will be looking for players to fill this new sport. It has now become more than just a way to help improve your indoor game!
