RETURNING TO THE NORTH TEXAS REGION, BIGGER AND BETTER!!
Tejas Volleyball continues to monitor the evolving situation with COVID-19 and the changing guidance from state and local health officials. Review the information below to learn more about what Tejas Volleyball is doing to prioritize athlete and staff health and safety.
What is Tejas' policy on wearing masks?
We are asking all players and coaches to wear masks at all times while entering the gym, leaving the gym, and while practicing in the gym. The wearing of a mask is a major mitigating factor that will limit our need to quarantine players/teams. If a masked is worn properly by the infectious person and a potential close contact, quarantine may not be required. We feel this policy is the best thing that will allow our teams to have a successful season.
What is a close contact?
A close contact is defined by the CDC as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes, starting from two days before illness onset until the time the patient is isolated. This means the close contact has possibly been exposed to the virus and should quarantine to monitor for symptoms. However, additional mitigating factors, like proper masking (both the infectious individual and the potential close contact, may affect this determination.
What if a teammate tests positive or has experienced symptoms?
If it is determined that the infectious person and the entire team were properly masked during the potential close contact, we would quarantine the infectious person and likely ask the potential close contacts (other teammates and coaches) to self-monitor themselves for 72 hours for any possible symptoms. As long as symptoms do not exist, we would likely allow volleyball activities to continue.
How will I know if my athlete is a close contact?
Anyone determined to be a close contact will receive an email from the club with notification and further instructions. If you are not directly contacted about you/your athlete being a close contact, then you/your athlete have not been identified as a close contact and will not need to quarantine.
If I/my athlete is sent home as a close contact, do other members of our family need to quarantine?
No. Anyone who has been near someone who is identified as a close contact is considered a “contact of a contact.” This person has not been exposed and may continue activities as normal. If the close contact individual begins experiencing symptoms or becomes lab-confirmed, the contact of a contact should begin quarantine and get tested.
What do I do if my athlete has COVID-19 symptoms or has been diagnosed through a lab-confirmed positive test result?
Keep your athlete home and contact the club director. As of December 2, 2020 the CDC has issued shorter options for the stay-at-home order. Individuals can return to the gym once they have no symptoms and 10 days after close contact without a test or, no symptoms and 7 days after close contact and a negative test.
What do I do if my athlete has had direct exposure to someone with COVID-19?
This is considered a "close contact." Keep your athlete home and contact the club director. If your athlete has had direct exposure through close contact to someone with COVID-19, begin a 10-day quarantine from the last-known contact with the lab-confirmed individual or 7-day quarantine with a negative test.
What do I do if someone in our household is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19?
The individual experiencing symptoms should get tested for COVID-19 and the remaining members of the household should quarantine until the test results are returned. Keep your athlete home and notify the club director to report your child's absence and close contact with a symptomatic individual.
What do I do if I need to report a lab-confirmed COVID-19 case during non-club hours?
Email the club director (info@tejasvolleyball.com). Someone from the club will follow up with additional instructions.
What do I do if a member of our household has been exposed to someone with COVID-19?
This is considered a "contact of a contact." If a member of your household has been exposed to COVID-19 but is not experiencing symptoms and the athlete was not in close contact with the positive COVID-19 individual, then your athlete may continue attending volleyball events.
What do I do if my athlete is ready to return to practice?
Your athlete can return to volleyball when all of the following criteria have been met:
You also may submit a medical professional's note indicating an alternative diagnosis or obtain an acute infection test that comes back negative for COVID-19 to gain clearance to return to volleyball. Athletes must check-in with the club director before being allowed to return to practice.
